Terms of Service
DRAFT — pending legal review. Not yet in effect. Do not rely on this page as a legal statement of Tarinoi's obligations until this notice is removed.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Tarinoi (the "Service"), operated by Tarinoi Works Oy ("Tarinoi", "we", "us", "our"), a company incorporated in Finland. By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
1. Acceptance of terms
By registering for or using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms, and by our Privacy Policy and GDPR Compliance page. If you're accepting these Terms on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have the authority to do so, and "you" refers to that organisation.
2. The Service
Tarinoi is a collaborative narrative design platform: a place to write, structure, and manage branching dialogue and other narrative content, together with your team, in real time or offline. The Service is under active development and its features may change, expand, or be removed over time. We'll do our best to give reasonable notice of any change that materially reduces functionality you rely on.
3. Accounts and eligibility
- You must provide accurate information when creating an account, and keep it up to date.
- You're responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activity under your account.
- You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service.
- You may join or create an organisation (tenant) within the Service; organisation administrators are responsible for managing membership and access within their own organisation.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or in violation of any applicable law or regulation
- Upload or create content that is illegal, infringes on someone else's rights, or that you don't have the right to use
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service, other accounts, or the systems/networks behind it
- Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service (e.g. through excessive load, malware, or exploiting vulnerabilities)
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service, except where applicable law permits it
- Resell or provide the Service to third parties without our written consent
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section.
5. Your content
You retain ownership of all content you or your organisation create within the Service ("Project Content"). You grant us a limited licence to store, process, transmit, and display your Project Content solely as needed to operate the Service on your behalf (for example, syncing your changes across devices and collaborators). We do not claim ownership of your Project Content, and we do not use it to train models or for any purpose other than operating the Service for you, unless you separately agree otherwise.
We do not transmit your Project Content to any third party except where you've explicitly authorised it — namely: to your organisation's signed-in collaborators and devices as part of normal sync, in response to API requests authenticated with credentials you've issued (e.g. an API token), and to Git remote repositories you've configured the Service to push to.
Project Content is stored in an open, human-readable format, and can be exported or synced to a Git repository you control — you are never locked into the Service to access your own content.
You're responsible for ensuring you have the necessary rights to any content you upload or create in the Service, and for complying with applicable law regarding that content (including data protection law, if it contains personal data about others — see §5 of the GDPR Compliance page).
6. Our intellectual property
The Service itself — its software, design, branding, and documentation — is owned by Tarinoi Works Oy or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property law. These Terms don't grant you any rights to our trademarks, logos, or branding except as needed to use the Service as intended.
7. Fees and billing
The Service is currently offered free of charge. We may introduce paid plans or usage-based fees in the future. If we do, we'll give you advance notice, and the specific pricing, billing cycle, and payment terms will be set out separately at that time (e.g. in an order form or updated pricing page) and will supplement these Terms. Continuing to use paid features after such terms take effect constitutes acceptance of them.
8. Privacy and data protection
Our collection and use of personal data is described in our Privacy Policy and, for EU/EEA users, our GDPR Compliance page. By using the Service, you agree to that processing as described there.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Tarinoi Works Oy shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim arising out of these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us, if any, in the twelve months preceding the claim.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law (for example, liability for gross negligence, wilful misconduct, or death or personal injury caused by our negligence).
11. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time (see §3.2 of the GDPR Compliance page). We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you materially breach these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service — in the latter case, we'll give reasonable advance notice where practicable.
Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (including §6, §9, §10, and §13) will continue to apply.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you (e.g. by email or an in-app notice) with reasonable advance notice before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Finland, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Finland, except where mandatory consumer-protection law gives you the right to bring a claim in your own country of residence.
